On the WP admin bar there is a worrying red exclamation point, that also appears on the settings submenu. There is no tooltip text to explain, and on the plugin’s settings page, there is no indication of any kind as to what the red exclamation point means. Could someone please explain the purpose of this anxiety-inducing notation means?

    Hello.
This should be a sign that some kind of error has occurred. We have already been informed about this, we are investigating the issue. We will contact you within 2-3 business days.

Thank you! I look forward to the unravelling of this mystery.

In the spirit of sharing information. Synchronizing with the cloud and then purging the cache makes it go away temporarily…but it comes back.

    Hi @deleyna
Thank you for the info. We will take this into account.

I also see it and since it has appeared, it seems to prevent emails from being sent to WP users randomly. I am using WP SMTP plugin to send emails via Google (transactional emails like password resets, user login etc) and since this red exclamation mark appeared a day back WP SMTP is unable to send emails. On clearing the cache the emails get sent but they again get prevented after some time.

    Hello,

We’ve fixed this issue in the dev version:

    https://github.com/CleanTalk/wordpress-antispam/releases/download/dev-version/cleantalk-spam-protect.zip

    1. Go to WordPress Administrator Panel —> Plugins.

    2. Find the plugin “Anti-Spam by CleanTalk” —> Deactivate.

    3. After the automatic page refreshing find the plugin again “Anti-Spam by CleanTalk” —> Delete. Confirm “Yes, delete these files”.

    4. Download the dev version of the plugin archive from the link.

    5. Go to Plugins —> Add New —> Upload Plugin.

    6. Choose the downloaded archive and press “Install Now”.

    7. After the installation, activate the plugin, make sure that the access key matches the key from your CleanTalk Control Panel.

I installed the dev version and still have same problem.

I did a resync and save and now the exclamation mark is gone.
Will test if it comes back or not.

Let us know if the problem returns.

    Hi everyone. @sergecleantalk @mahyulan @man1001 @katereji @deleyna
Just a quick note from the moderator team here.
This may be a typical case where troubleshooting and fixing a problem gets messed up, since it’s possible that the only thing you’ve got in common is a generic error notification, and the underlying issues (and corresponding fixes) may be different between various cases.

Here a second user provided “additional troubleshooting info”, and a third user responded with “feedback to the fix”. I.e. we still don’t know if the problem of the original poster actually gets fixed this way.

Better than chiming in with a comment “I have the same problem”, is to start your own topic.

Thank you @sergecleantalk @katereji and others, I’ve installed 5.161.1-dev in place of 5.161 per your installation instructions and the red exclamation mark is gone and I don’t see any other negative outcomes. I will keep watching to see if this version is working OK. Many thanks for the (hopeful) fix!

@watou thank you for your feedback.

Same thing was going on here, on all sites cleantalk is on, and this seems to have fixed it… Thanks for all your continuing great support and followup…
