I have a number of pages that have the following character string being indexed by Google and I don’t what is causing them – any suggestions?

ie.. “?p=hmpumlfa” at the end of a page url – with exactly the same content as the page without the extra characters.

Also… I can type in any almost any characters into that string, and the web page still resolves with the same content. How can I prevent any ‘false’ url from resolving and show a 404?

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Thanks esmi… unfortunately I don’t see how the urls are created.. just the end result of them being indexed by Google…

Have you checked any of the links on your site?

I don’t understand what you mean?

“Have you checked any of the links on your site?”

Via wmt I have deleted the unwanted urls… but still not sure how they got/get created…

Have you checked any of the links on your site for similar url fragments?
