Support » Themes and Templates » What Is a Good Responsive Theme Framework?

  • I work with clients to create custom WordPress websites using Thematic. Lately there has been so much demand for mobile friendly sites that I need to switch to a Theme Framework that is responsive so I can work with one design and test on multiple devices. Any suggestions on what the best theme might be for this? I looked at ones that are based on Foundation but I want it to be developer friendly like Thematic.

What about the most popular one Responsive 😉 and it’s right here in WPORG directory.

I tried out Reverie so far. It has negated the theme overrides for custom style sheet’s and that might be problematic for our team. I’ll try the other ones as I am looking for a theme that can be easily understood by a few members on a team who don’t fully understand the WordPress system (i.e. I don’t want them having to make any core changes to the parent theme). Responsive looks promising. I’ll keep trying these out.

I included mine because we offer 100% dedicated support for free and support is handled daily, well even hourly when time permits. Almost 200,000 downloads in about 6 months and according to Google about 110,000* live sites (checked last month), I am proud to say that we achieved a lot in such short period of time.

Note that Responsive isn’t a framework, it’s stand-alone Theme, just like most of them listed above, it offers handy hooks and it’s not as advanced as Thematic 🙂 But you won’t be disappointed.

So far so good, but is there a list of hooks for this theme or is it just the standard WP hooks.

Great! Just what I needed, thanks!

I am going to use Responsivefor my Future projects. Can I Use it for Commercial Purpose??
I thinking of using this as a Base for my Future Projects?

    I mean for theme Forest?

I think licence allows me right?

If a theme is released under GPL (license), it must also be used under GPL.

It’s a fun discussion. *Drinks coffee*

GPL’ed licensed software means that the author cannot restrict the distribution or the modification of that software. That also means that you (the user) cannot restrict the software either if you distribute it.

If you use the software, modify it but do not distribute it then you do not have to share or make available your changes at all.

That’s very free and we’re all huge fans of GPL’ed software. Emil’s theme’s are very GPL’ed.

If you create a commercial theme off of Responsive like that you will absolutely need to credit the original author and you will not be able to restrict the distribution of that work in anyway shape or fashion.

Rather than starting with someone else’s work you’ll be better of creating your own theme from scratch. Trying to sell someone else’s work is Just Not Cool at all.

    Thanks for your Info.

Yes, I will not sell others work. can you suggest me a idea?

I am planning to Sell Themes on Theme Forest (A New Business 🙂 only way! ). I am Planning to build HTML CSS3 Responsive Theme.
How to Start ??. Can use Starter Themes or Frameworks? If yes, What is Best for me?

Another question, In most of the Starter themes, they are using some CSS Frameworks like Foundation, Twitters Bootstrap, etc. If I want to change the CSS to navigation menu means, etc., means how to do that? need to edit that core CSS Files?

Would love some pre-sales info for Responsive but their forums gives a “Fake IP” message when you register.

If Emil Uzelac sees this perhaps he can let me know how to get my questions answered.

We want to know more about the 4 responsive theme they offer and if paid support is an option for 1-2 months.

Responsive theme was sold to CyberChimps a couple of months ago – you can find information and/or contact them here:
