  • Someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this is something that’s built into 2.5.+ of WordPress.

Ah, I didn’t realize that if that is the case.

For reference (this is my source): WordPress 2.5 from the Development Blog

There’s a part towards the end of the post where Matt mentions Built-in galleries

Built-in galleries — when you take advantage of multi-file upload to upload a bunch of photos, we have a new shortcode that lets you to easily embed galleries by just putting [ gallery] (without the space) in your post. It’ll display all your thumbnails and captions and each will link each to a page where people can comment on the individual photos. I’ve been using this feature on my blog and have already uploaded over 1,200 pictures into 23 galleries. The shortcode has some hidden options too, check out this documentation.

p/s: Quite a few people have built plugins (I think?) to extend this gallery function even further. Will take a bit of digging around the Repository though.

Thanks for the info. My only question now is how do I get thumbnails that aren’t square? WP seems to default to square thumbnails.

I’m still having trouble with this. When I use the built in WP 2.5.1 gallery, clicking on the image after the thumbnail does not take visitors to the next image like it does in the above example. Instead, it takes them to that actual image file.

Anyone know how I get navigation for visitors to move to the next image?

This post by Becky looks really helpful!
