    Hi there,

What image format would you suggest we use for an ecommerce website? 90% of our users are on mobile and yes of course a lot of poeple have Apple too.

So would you suggest the AVIF format or the WebP? If we choose one and later want to upgrade is that easy to do via your plugin or are there any downsides.

Finally, does switching image format affect our images listed in google images?

    Many thanks

Oh and one further question, how will this affect our images in Google Shopping ads for example? Will we need to pause all our google ad marketing and replace all the image URLs which have the jpg file ending, or does your plugin not change the file end?

    Thanks again

    Hello @dav74,

    Thanks for your message.

The plugin allows you to convert images to WebP and AVIF format. The best option is AVIF format and is supported by 70% of browsers. You can check it out here. If a browser does not support AVIF, but supports WebP, it will display images in WebP format. You can check it out here. However, if the browser does not support WebP or AVIF, the original images will be loaded.

The plugin does not change the URLs, so you don’t have to worry. The url is still the same. An invisible redirect is done. You can find out more about this by reading the plugin FAQ, especially question “How to check if plugin works?”.

The solution is simple to use. You install the plugin, click one button and the process of converting all images starts. That’s all.

    Best,
    Mateusz

Many thanks for the quick and friendly reply. Sorry yes I missed that point in the FAQ that the urls are not changed.

Out of interest, is there any negative SEO effect to having a redirect on effectively all images on the website? Yes of course there is a huge benefit to the faster page speeds due to image size reduction, but I was wondering if the redirects carry any negative in terms of SEO.

Thanks again and enjoy your evening.

@dav74 I have not observed any negative consequences of such actions. I recommend trying both WebP and AVIF. You can check it yourself in practice.

Great thanks. I am actually just over the 10K images on my site, so if I just picked AVIF then I would just be into the second package pricing tier. We do not add that many images to our site on a monthly basis. Is it possible to downgrade to the cheaper 5 USD/month package once we have converted all our 11K images to the AVIF format?

Also, is there any lag on OS devices / safari browsers which cannot use these new image formats, as they get served the fallback jpg image versions? It is hard for me to test this so wondering from your experience.

    Many thanks

@dav74 There are no delays in my experience. Redirection is done at the server level and it works very quickly.

An yearly plan seems to be the best option. There is a monthly limit of 10,000 images per month, but I count it differently. Receives 120,000 images per year for use. Therefore, you could use more than 10,000 images in the first month. You cannot exceed 120,000 images in a year.

    Great thanks for that @mateuszgbiorczyk

I have done a test with the free version and I notice that quite a few images do not have WebP applied to them, even though they can still be compressed a lot of I run then through one of the many image compression tools.

So when I go and test the page with Google Page Speed insights, we are still not passing on image sizes because a few of them are still far too big and need to be reduced in size.

Do you have any idea how we can resolve this?
