• What Does This Mean In Plain English? And how do i fix it?

    To serve static html files your server must have the correct mod_rewrite rules added to a file called /home/santa/public_html/mydomain.com/.htaccess You must edit the file yourself add the following rules. Make sure they appear before any existing WordPress rules.

    Then at the bottom there’s a button that says update Mod_Rewrite Rules

    also under Directly Cache Files it says: Warning! /home/santa/public_html/mydomain.com/ is writable. Please make it readonly after your page is generated as this is a security risk.

    I am using the latest version of wordpress. Please help

    Thanks

  • It might help if you explained what plugin you’re talking about…

    oh sorry about that … I am using the super cache plugin and I have the status set to ON

    You need to create a file called .htaccess and add the mod-rewrite rules to it using a plain text editor. Then you need to upload the file to the /home/santa/public_html/mydomain.com folder using FTP.

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^.*[^/]$
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^.*//.*$

    RewriteRule ^(.*) /wp-content/cache/supercache/%{HTTP_HOST}/$1/index.html [L]
    </IfModule>
    # END WPSuperCache

    Rules must be added to /home/santa/public_html/mydomain.com/wp-content/cache/.htaccess too:

    # BEGIN supercache
    <IfModule mod_mime.c>
    <FilesMatch “\.html\.gz$”>
    ForceType text/html
    FileETag None
    </FilesMatch>
    AddEncoding gzip .gz
    AddType text/html .gz
    </IfModule>
    <IfModule mod_deflate.c>
    SetEnvIfNoCase Request_URI \.gz$ no-gzip
    </IfModule>
    <IfModule mod_headers.c>
    Header set Vary “Accept-Encoding, Cookie”
    Header set Cache-Control ‘max-age=300, must-revalidate’
    </IfModule>
    <IfModule mod_expires.c>
    ExpiresActive On
    ExpiresByType text/html A300
    </IfModule>
    # END supercache

    and then there’s a clickable button that says: Update_Mod_Rewrite Rules

    am i suppose to click that button?

    Thread Starter vuedoolor

    (@vuedoolor)

    will just clicking the button work or do I need to do all the uploading ftp stuff?

    Clicking the button will do it.

    Thread Starter vuedoolor

    (@vuedoolor)

    Okay I clicked on the rewrite button then went in filezilla:

    /public_html/fitnessinspector.com
    I view my .htaccess and it looks like this:

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    # END WordPress

    So should I delete everything in .htaccess and have this paste in instead to have my .htaccess look like this?

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    AddDefaultCharset UTF-8
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^.*[^/]$
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^.*//.*$
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} !POST
    RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} !.*=.*
    RewriteCond %{HTTP:Cookie} !^.*(comment_author_|wordpress|wp-postpass_).*$
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} !^.*(2.0\ MMP|240×320|400X240|AvantGo|BlackBerry|Blazer|Cellphone|Danger|DoCoMo|Elaine/3.0|EudoraWeb|Googlebot-Mobile|hiptop|IEMobile|KYOCERA/WX310K|LG/U990|MIDP-2.|MMEF20|MOT-V|NetFront|Newt|Nintendo\ Wii|Nitro|Nokia|Opera\ Mini|Palm|PlayStation\ Portable|portalmmm|Proxinet|ProxiNet|SHARP-TQ-GX10|SHG-i900|Small|SonyEricsson|Symbian\ OS|SymbianOS|TS21i-10|UP.Browser|UP.Link|webOS|Windows\ CE|WinWAP|YahooSeeker/M1A1-R2D2|iPhone|iPod|Android|BlackBerry9530|LG-TU915\ Obigo|LGE\ VX|webOS|Nokia5800).*
    RewriteCond %{HTTP:Accept-Encoding} gzip
    RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/wp-content/cache/supercache/%{HTTP_HOST}/$1/index.html.gz -f
    RewriteRule ^(.*) /wp-content/cache/supercache/%{HTTP_HOST}/$1/index.html.gz [L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^.*[^/]$
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^.*//.*$

    RewriteRule ^(.*) /wp-content/cache/supercache/%{HTTP_HOST}/$1/index.html [L]
    </IfModule>
    # END WordPress

    I remember trying that and all my post and pages were not found and had error message that the post or page doesn’t exist.
