    Hey @blubonfire,

    thanks for your review.

The free version does a lot.

You can create files and manage them within libraries.
You can customize the entire appearance for libraries (colors, font sizes, disable/enable rows and columns, and more).

    The pro version only includes:

    – the frontend uploader
    – setting a custom folder name
    – secured links

None of them are essential to creating secured libraries for your files and documents within WordPress.

So, I can absolutely not agree with that kind of review.

    Thanks anyway,
    Patrick

Hi Patrick, thank you for your response.

Sorry if I don’t get it, but how does it “Secure” or “Protect” files in any form?

The /uploads/ directory is already blocked by wordpress.

    Hey @blubonfire,

    thanks for your reply!

By default, the /uploads/ directory isn’t protected and is readable by Google (and other bots), but maybe your hosting provider already put protection in place?

Filr makes sure that the directory /uploads/filr/ is not readable by bots by either adding a .htaccess file and the rules for that or (if you use Nginx, for example) by adding an index.php file to prevent reading the directory.

It also prevents the creation of attachment pages, which WordPress automatically generates if you upload something through “Media”.

Sure, there are a couple of additional methods in the pro version, but the methods mentioned above are available within the free version.

    Best regards,
    Patrick
