    Hello,

Today I tried to load one of my sites on my mobile device, and got the following error:

    (ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT)

Then out of curiosity I tried accessing two of my other sites which are also using WordFence, and got the same.

Then when I tried on my laptop, all the sites loaded fine.

I wondered if it was the VPN on my phone, so I disabled it, then refreshed the sites and they all loaded.

What is strange is, I am using the same VPN service on my laptop and my mobile device, so I am unsure why it would be blocking one and not the other.

In any case, I am dismayed that my sites could be losing legitimate traffic if any visitors using a VPN who are not bad actors are being blocked.

What is a way to configure WF not to block VPN traffic unless it is engaged in malicious activity?

Hi @mikedark, sorry to see you’re having a few troubles with VPN on your sites.

Wordfence does not actively block VPN or Tor users, largely as they (especially VPNs) are almost indistinguishable from regular internet traffic. Many privacy conscious people use these to protect their online presence, so blocking them isn’t something we generally consider good practice.

I would attempt to visit your site again using the VPN/mobile method and watch your Live Traffic to see why the timestamp matching your device is being blocked. A blocked reason will be supplied when inspecting the entry with the eye icon. This can then help you adjust your rules or blocks accordingly if the site is being too strict.

Let me know if you need any further assistance with interpreting what you see.

    Thanks,

    Peter.
