Hi I am trying the free plugin and have installed and tested the “test” email sending feature, which works fine. All gerneral site emails are also sending fine.

According to the documentation, the plugin should send an email to users when enforcing 2FA for users. When I switch to enforce 2FA then no emails are being sent – my email logs show that the site is not sending any email.

Is that because I am using the free version or should all emails be sent?

    Thanks

Thank you for using our plugin @yaseico

When you enforce 2FA on users they will not be sent an email. They will get a sort of “notification banner” once they log in advising them that they need to set up 2FA.

An email is then sent if you configure 2FA and select to receive the one-time code over email, but no emails are sent when you just enforce 2FA.

If you’ve read somewhere that the plugin sends you an email once you enforce 2FA, would you please share the exact text, or maybe share a screenshot?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi @robert681

Thanks for getting back to me and clarifying.

On the “policies” page of the plugin, there is a link to “learn more” under the section relating to enforcing 2FA. This link takes me to the following page: https://wp2fa.io/support/kb/configure-2fa-policies-enforce/?utm_source=plugin&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=WP2FA&utm_content=settings+pages

On that wp2fa.io page there are a number of references along the lines of : “Once you enable two-factor authentication, your users will receive an email and also get a notification when they login to the website.”

    See screenshot below..

Thank you for sharing all the details @yaseico

The text is correct; once users set up 2FA they will receive a one-time code over email when they try to log in. But this is after they set up 2FA.

When you enforce 2FA, you are requiring users to configure 2FA and not configuring 2FA. That means that they will get a notification the next time they log in to set up 2FA. Once they click the “Configure 2FA” button, then they can proceed with the configuration.

Once fully configured, if they have chosen to get a code over email, the next time they try to log in, they will receive a one-time code over email.

I hope the above answers your question. If you need further clarification, please let me know.
