 * Hi,
 * i’m working on some weird performance problems with wordpress for several weeks
   now and thought i’ll post them here – maybe someone has already heard from that.
 * I got two wordpress installations on the same server (my own dedicated server
   so i have a clear overview of resource usage). Both sites run an nearly identical
   set of plugins.
 * site 1) gets about 5.000 unique visitors a day and around 8.000 PI.
    site 2)
   gets about 12.000 uv’s and 20.000 PI.
 * site 1) has about 600 pages and subpages in 2 levels.
    site 2) has about 200
   pages and subpages in 2 levels.
 * The problem is that when editing pages in site 1 it takes way longer to publish/
   unpublish them then in site 2. When i do a quick edit on a page on site 2 and
   change from draft to publish – when hitting save it takes about a second to save.
   On site 1 this takes about 10 seconds. Basically not a big problem but the cause
   of this problem seems to cause much more trouble at all. One thing is that this
   sites often gets 10 pages at once published which is impossible because php runs
   into a timeout before the publish is finished. Also this eats up lots of resources
   on the server.
 * I use W3 total cache on both sites but on site 1 whenever a url isn’t cached
   it eats up loads of cpu to render the page. I suppose this due to the same problem
   that leads to that strange publish delay on the pages.
 * I’ve already done a complete fresh installation of wordpress, importing the posts
   and pages from site 1 via ex/import function of wordpress. I’ve not installed
   any plugins at first and have already seen that ugly delay when editing pages.
   I’m really stumped as i can’t imagine where this comes from. Can the amount of
   pages (just around 600) really be a problem here? Then why doesn’t this happen
   on posts (around 1.700 posts in the database).
 * The only other difference is the content of the pages, but this can’t be a problem,
   can it? At least i can’t imagine…
 * Anyone with an idea? Thanks for helping!
 * Frank

 * Does this problem still occur with the twentyten theme and/or with all other
   plugins except W3TC activated?
 * Have you checked your error log for errors like if memory limits have been exhausted?

 * Hi Frederick,
 * this problem even occures with all plugins deactivated and the standard theme.
   In between i could narrow it down to permalinks.
 * When i switch permalinks off the whole problem is gone. Looks like the amount
   of pages in combination with permalinks switched on is the problem.

 * Can you submit a bug submission form from the support tab of the plugin?
