 * Hi.
 * I’ve been using the plugin for approximetaly a month and a half on my website
   and it appeared to work fine. We saw a gradual increase in our visits as we released
   new content and did extra marketing on the side.
 * The other day it showed 40,000 hits which is great. I went home that same night
   and it appeared to have adjusted to 19,000. I checked today and now it’s reporting
   500,000+ which seems a bit ridiculous.
 * Can someone help me with resolving this so that I can ensure I’m getting proper
   statistics since I need to provide reports for a school project.
 * Thank you.

 * WP Statistics never removes data unless you’ve configured the database maintenance.
   You may be getting hit by a DDoS attack, is the spike all being recorded today?

 * It hit 40k over about a month. Today alone we got 500k.
 * Does it resolve itself eventually or no?

 * Yep, sounds like your getting hit. You should let your service provider know
   and they can probably block it for you.
 * Afterwords you can clean up the most egregious numbers in the database manually.
 * DDoS attacks usually wane after a few hours but it depends on what the point
   of the attack is. If your on shared hosting you’re probably not even the target.
