website/Blog relationship

    I am about to get a domain name, install wordpress and set up a blog.

    However,I was also thinking of setting up a website – primarily for the students I teach , in order that they can always find the handouts and exercises for the courses they follow with me, as well as the little videos that accompany those handouts.

    I was thinking of using a free software such as Kompozer for the website.
    My questions are:
    Can the website and the blog be connected/integrated?
    Should the website and the blog be connected/integrated?

    Can wordpress do all Kompozer can do and more (e.g.blog pages with comments, nice templates etc)?

    way better

    you can set up the entire site with wordpress
    you can have a static page as home page with a Blog page option
    you can have as many static pages as you want
    commenting is native
    easily add videos

    1000’s of free wordpress themes/templates
    themes.wordpress.net
