Support » Fixing WordPress » Website shows up in mobile-friendly mode on a PC

  • Our company website randomly goes to mobile mode (takes out home page images and menu for easier viewing on a smaller screen) across several different browsers and computers. Seems to have no pattern to whether it shows up in full or in mobile mode. When it opens in mobile mode, the “view full site” link at the bottom of the page doesn’t work.
Does anybody have any idea what’s going on, or how to fix this?
P.S. How do I go about changing the way things look in mobile-friendly mode?

  • I believe it is an issue that is happening due to your cache plugin. If someone views it as mobile then the next person gets the same page without it being checked if the user is mobile or not.

What are you exactly using to render people the mobile version of a website? See if you can use some other way – or maybe use a different caching plugin (or maybe redo the site design so that it is mobile responsive and you do not have to worry about different versions of site)

    Thanks speedito, for your response.
I don’t think we have any special rendering techniques for different sized screens; it’s probably the default. The theme we use is a heavily-customised version of twenty-eleven, called something else.
As far as caching goes, we have wp-super-cache installed but I don’t think that’s what is causing the problems.

Where will I find the code that determines how the site shows on mobile devices, and how should I change it to not be (as) responsive?

I would be trying to avoid redesigning the site if possible… as I said it is very heavily customised and features 2 separate menus. I would have no idea how to replicate this on a new theme…
