I have a potential problem with the ownership of my website. This was created by my nephew, using wordpress, using a design and content put together by myself. I add new content myself as and when I can but my nephew currently organises the hosting(?) of my website and solves any problems I have with it and is the wordpress administrator(?) Unfortunately I now no longer have anything to do with my blood family and this is not going to change in the future…….. I am very concerned that my website could therefore go ‘unsupported’ in the future. I am self-emplyed and the website is basically my shop window/advert. An awful lot of work has gone into it over the past couple of years. Any advice? Can I take the website into my full ownership? How can I get to be the websites administrator/organise it’s yearly hosting/potentially get a third party involved to take over the work my nephew is currently doing?

You’ll need to take over the hosting account. If it’s in your nephew’s name, you’ll need him to transfer that you you. You’ll also need to have the domain registration transfered to an account you control. Once you have that, you can can worry about taking over the administration of the website itself.

You really need to have at least one more conversation with your nephew.

Thank you Steve. Question is, am I legally entitled to that information/process – can it be withheld from me?
Btw, I have no problem with my nephew, it’s my parents and siblings I no longer have anything to do with. It’s been 18 months and I just fear that at some point influence will come to bear…

Legal, shmeagal. That’s not a question that I can answer nor is it appropriate for here. At this point, I think it’s best to close this thread. When you have a WordPress support question, please feel free to start a new thread.
