I have WordPress installed on a number of websites and with a number of different hosts.

I am getting extended periods of time when I can’t get into the wp-admin area with messages saying the site is unavailable. It seems to go up and down every few minutes – and then the next day it seems to be resolved but may happen again a few days later.

I have contacted the hosts and they cannot see a problem and suggest it is something connected with WordPress.

Has anyone else had this issue ? I am losing days of work at the moment due to not being able to get into wp-admin so any advice would be appreciated.

The fact it is happening at the same time on sites with different hosts leads me to believe it is something that I have installed that is causing the problem.

  • I have tried changing the names of all the plugins and adding them back in one by one – but it hasn’t made any difference.

Do you have a url you can share for one or two of them for me to take a look at? And who their hosts are? I had this issue on one client – and it was because the hosting companies moved the site from one of their servers to another one. When they did that, they changed the database connections in the wp-config.php file. Once we figured that out, the site became stable again.

    Thanks.

http://devsite.iceskate.co.nz/wordpress/wp-admin is with a different hosting company – and was playing up earlier but seems to be ok now.

http://www.ridgetek.co.uk/chloes/wp-admin/ is also unavailable at the moment.

I also can’t get into my own main domain http://www.ridgetek.co.uk/wp-admin

Did you register the domain name with the same company that is hosting your website? I think your website IP address might be the culprit here. Have you tried using FTP and disabling the plugin folder? I really think it’s the hosting and the IP though.

Your main website came up twice for me but the ones in the subfolders will not come up.

    Thanks.

Yes the domain name was registered with the hosting company.

I have disabled the plugin folder and am still getting the issue.

Is there anything I should ask them to check with regards to the IP or hosting as at the moment they just check the website and tell me it is running ?

I think that this is now resolved (fingers crossed).

I had a different sub-domain off my main website that had wordpress installed using a theme called styleshop.

When I looked at the error logs I saw this name coming up – it appeared to be some kind of conflict.

I uninstalled wordpress from this sub domain and deleted the domain and my website is now running efficiently again.

I hadn’t noticed this until I saw the error logs – and as I hadn’t used the styleshop site for over a month I hadn’t considered it to be the issue.

    Thanks for everyones help.

Ahhhh that could be. The URL you gave me before wasn’t actually a subdomain – it was a subfolder URL.

You gave me this which is subfolder access.

When maybe you should have given me:

    southestates.ridgetek.co.uk

Your other site that was running fine was set up as a subdomain: http://devsite.iceskate.co.nz/wordpress/wp-admin

Resolved – caused by conflct with styleshop wordpress theme.
