Website gone. How do I find my content?

  • I had a wordpress admin account connected to a website. That website has since gone down and hence the admin long URL no longer works.

Does anyone know a way around this in order for me to get into the account and grab all my content from the blog?

  • Can you elaborate more on what you mean by “gone down”? and was this a self hosted site or one at wordpress.com?

If it was a self hosted blog and you have access to your cPanel of the hosting account simply go to your phpMyAdmin and back up the database from there – that’s assuming by gone down you don’t mean the hosting account itself.

If its just the website that is not accessible then there a few methods you can try to regain access and those will depend on the answer to Q1 plus your technical comfort level.

The site is down because the person that was hosting the site told me their web host changed IP addresses, and my website is still pointing to the oid IP. I’m not fussed about the website anymore but would like to get the blogs I wrote.

    Ah OK.

In that case you have two options:

    1) Ask the hosting co nicely to allow you temp access to retrieve your content….or
    2) Try old method of checking cached Google pages of your site and grab as much as you can from them.

Sorry, other than that can’t help you further on this.
