Support » Fixing WordPress » website downloads a file instead of displaying

  • Hello all.

    about 6 months ago the site [ redundant link removed ] will download a file instead of publishing the home page or the mycims.com/wp-admin.

    I have researched it and followed recommendations to rename the plugins folder and theme folders to see if it was a plugin but it did not help.

    The file that downloads contains:

    <?php
    /**
     * Front to the WordPress application. This file doesn't do anything, but loads
     * wp-blog-header.php which does and tells WordPress to load the theme.
     *
     * @package WordPress
     */

    /**
     * Tells WordPress to load the WordPress theme and output it.
     *
     * @var bool
     */
    define('WP_USE_THEMES', true);

    /** Loads the WordPress Environment and Template */
    require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/wp-blog-header.php' );

    The hosting server is running
    Apache 2.4, PHP 7.1, PHP 7.2, and PHP 7.3

    .htaccess is:
    allow from 66.254.12.18

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    # END WordPress
    # compress text, html, javascript, css, xml:
    <IfModule mod_deflate.c>
    AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/plain
    AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html

    </IfModule>

  • Six months? You certainly are patient!

    Anyway, that’s probably a server issue… I see the site just fine except there are some images broken and throwing 403 errors.

    The 403 error page points to several issues that might be causing you problems and further suggests repairing that via cPanel.

    I hope this helps but I don’t think any of this is a WordPress issue itself.

    Let us know if we can help further.

    yea I found a post to rename the .htaccess to .htaccess_old and the home page came up along with the admin

    I had to fix a broken link to the logo but your right the other pages are not coming up now.

    I updated WP, theme, and plugins but still not seeing the other pages. :\

    Any other thoughts?

    So the other pages are back. Jeez, I need to update this old site don’t I? 😀
