 * Does anyone know whats causing this? I do have a few plugins but the only one
   I can see directly affecting the login could be the s2Member plugin I am using.
   Other than that, it was working fine for months.

 * This looks like a problem with your hosting provider or s2Member. I would suggest
   calling your provider and asking them to see what processes are causing high 
   cpu usage and if they aren’t really able to give any further info the contact
   s2Member support. You will get best support with s2Member by contacting them.
   They are aware that we do not support premium/third-party plugins here in the
   _Fixing WordPress_ forums.

 * Every plugin has the ability to affect CPU usage in wp-login.php and wp-cron.
   php.
 * Those numbers suggest that someone was trying to brute-force a login. I think
   your efforts are better spent by looking at your access logs to determine whether
   your site is under attack. If it is, then take the necessary steps to harden 
   wp-login.php against brute-force attacks.
 * If you have any type of “wordpress hosting”, your hosting company should be responsible
   for setting up the brute-force protection.
