    Hi,
are there any limitations in the free version for the quality setting on the advanced tab?

If I enter a value of 90 or above in the webp quality level field this happens:
1 or 2 images are converted to webp if i hit “optimize” in the media library.
From then on, no more webp versions of images are created.

I have to go to the options again, delete the value, choose a file from the media library, optimize it and a webp version will be created. Then i go back to the options enter the value of 90 again and will be able to convert another 1-2 images.

It is a little bit weired to have the values changed after 1-2 optimizations.
The default of 75 results in blurry images sometimes, so i would like to have a better quality.

    Cheers
    Ralf

    Hi ralfkerkhoff,

No, there aren’t any limitations for the quality settings. The issue you are probably running into is the size of the WebP version generated when you increase the quality. Our plugin won’t generate a WebP image if it is larger than the original (jpg or png) as that is the point of using WebP. The higher you set the quality, the larger the WebP generated is going to be, and more likely than not, it’s not going to find any savings. We generally recommend keeping the quality between 75 and 90.

    Hi,
thanks for the reply. Not generating a webp makes sense if the result would be larger than the original 🙂

I’m glad you think so (we’ve had a lot of conversations about it over the years)! If you have any other questions, please let us know!
