@sivarkwell
Such a feature is not part of WooCommerce.
This is a fairly complex development topic. I’m going to leave it open for a bit to see if anyone is able to chime in to help you out.
I can also recommend <a href="https://developer.woocommerce.com/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">the WooCommerce Developer Resources Portal</a> for resources on developing for WooCommerce.
You can also visit the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/advanced.woocommerce/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">WooCommerce Facebook group</a> or the <code>#developers</code> channel of the <a href="https://woocommerce.com/community-slack/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">WooCommerce Community Slack</a>. We're lucky to have a great community of open-source developers for WooCommerce, and many of our developers hang out there, as well.
I would love if there was an official native solution for taking payments from customers over the phone or at least just acting on behalf of a customer to take a payment. I understand it’s complex to build permissions for sharing or saving gateway tokens between accounts and there are probably more security holes that are opened when developing this so I get it.
Shopify has it. Woocommerce needs it. That is, if they are still competing.
Hi @sivarkwell!
I understand your point! While this isn’t a core feature, you can achieve it through a plugin, like the Phone Orders & Payments; with this plugin, you can take phone orders and enable phone payments at the checkout.
You can check more about it here: https://woocommerce.com/products/phone-orders-payments/.
If you have any pre-sales questions about that plugin, please create a ticket here: https://woocommerce.com/my-account/create-a-ticket/.
Anyway, I think it would be great to have you add your ideas to the Ideas Board, which is where developers go to look for future plugin features and improvements.
Cheers!
I am honestly just still confused because I’ve used the feature in the past without a plugin, I’ve literally seen the button on the back-end for Woocommerce. I’ve used this functionality to pay Invoices before.
If I have the time I am tempted to get an older version of Woocommerce to see if it is in there, because I’m pretty sure it is. So why the secrecy?
I feel like you didn’t tell people about a security threat you probably discovered and you quietly phased out this feature without discussion because its defiitely in old versions when you click on the eye Preview for Orders.
Hi @sivarkwell
It isn’t a WooCommerce core feature. Hope you find the extension suggested by @judagutor helpful.
I’m marking this thread as resolved. If you have further questions, please feel free to open a new topic.
Thanks
@sivarkwell –
You are sort-of correct. I have the core WC plugin, Square for WC, Stamps.com and “Flexible Shipping” from a third-party.
I upgraded to WC 6.0.0 last night and just checked for you, and I can see inside the order, in the “Item” section where it lists Items, Shipping, Total amounts, at the bottom it shows a “Refund” button and a “Capture Charge” button. My Capture Charge button is disabled (grayed-out) in this particular order because the customer paid through normal checkout. Unfortunately, there is no way to attach a screen shot here – which I really don’t understand. When you’re dealing with an issue and trying to explain to Support, a picture is worth a thousand words (as they say.) You can send me a message at https://customerservice@thegiantcaramelapple.com and put “Attention: Jeff.” I will then reply to you with a screen shot, if that helps you.
The only possible plugin I have that might add this button would be the Square Payments one. I can’t disable it right now because there are customers purchasing now.
Cheers,
Jeff
