• After activating this plugin and choosing to do a backup, the process appeared to proceed as expected, and created a subdirectory named /simple-backup/. Once completed, the website failed to render at all (white screen of death), and after I logged out, I could not log in again. I was able to undo the damage by (1) going in via FTP and renaming the plugins directory, (2) logging in via the normal WP login page (now working), (3) restoring the plugins directory to its original name AND renaming the simple-backup subdirectory, and finally (4) going into Dashboard > Plugins and deleting the Simple Backup plugin. If you follow this procedure, you will need to re-activate your other plugins as the default when they come up is “deactivated” (however, their settings seem to be as before).

I think there are much safer choices than this plugin to backup your site.
