warning error message when i try to log into admin

  • hi there,
    i am very new to wordpress so apologise if i sound like an absolute n00b or i am posting this in the wrong location.

    i set up a wordpress website about a month ago but then due to traveling, wasn’t able to do anything with it for the last month. Now when i try to go to the admin login, i get a warning error message:

    Warning: require_once(/home/storage/4/28/aa/pantanal-pousadasan1/public_html/wordpress/wordpress/wp-includes/pomo/mo.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/storage/4/28/aa/pantanal-pousadasan1/public_html/wordpress/wordpress/wp-includes/load.php on line 731

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/storage/4/28/aa/pantanal-pousadasan1/public_html/wordpress/wordpress/wp-includes/pomo/mo.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/share/pear’) in /home/storage/4/28/aa/pantanal-pousadasan1/public_html/wordpress/wordpress/wp-includes/load.php on line 731

    I can log into FTP without any problems. I just don’t know what to do next…should i uninstall the theme, or am i missing something?

    Can anyone tell if it is a problem with the theme i installed, although there were absolutely no problems before I left so it’s so weird that it is just like this now?!

    Thanks so much for anyones help.

  • Two things to try.

    1) Switch to a default theme (TwentyThirteen) and see if the error goes away.

    2) If not, try reinstalling WP’s core files. You can delete wp-includes and wp-admin without losing any data. Then just download a clean copy of WordPress, unzip, and copy the files up 🙂

    Thank you Mika.

    Regarding 1) I can’t even get to the login in order to switch the theme. Do you know how I can do this cicumventing this warning message? I can log into my ftp fine.

    2) ok so just to clarify, delet only the folders wp-includes and wp-admin and re-upload these files and then it should work ok?

    Thanks so much I will try now. And sorry, these must seem like such n00b questions.

    Merry Christmas.
