I am receiving a ‘Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /var/sites/r/readaraptor.co.uk/public_html/wp-admin/includes/post.php on line 642’ error message when I access my blog dashboard. It will not allow me to create any new posts and I have spoken to my hosting provider who claim that I need a developer to help with this as its not a hosting issue.. Can anyone help?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for that… I’ve managed to install that plug in but its not helped, the error remains even when all plugins are disabled and the theme is a default theme.

DRAT! On the first tab of healthcheck, what version of PHP are you using?

only 5.5.26 – it says I should be using 7 or higher and I should contact my host for that… I only moved hosting company in January though, am I right in thinking if they would provide version 7 as standard they would have done it when they took on my account – ie. it will be an additional cost to get them to upgrade it?

You should be on 5.6 at the very least, but 7.1 or 7.2 would be better. (WP recommends 7.2, but I run my server on 7.1 due to conflicts with some non-WP software.)

If you have cpanel access for your host, it should be as simple as finding the PHP Version app and clicking on it to change to 7.x.

Upgrading PHP may not fix the issue, but it’s worth a try — and your site will run faster, too.

Thanks, started digging in my control panel and found it, got it changed to 7.1 but it still hasn’t fixed anything.

My host did say they can replace my core files with default WordPress ones but I’m worried I will lose almost 10 years of blogging history by doing that as they said they can’t guarantee everything will be there once they do it. Should I just ask them to do this then restore from a backup if it doesn’t work?

Replacing core files will not affect your data but make a backup first. Doesn’t hurt to be too careful.

Perfect. I will ask them to do that and ensure I have a backup downloaded first. Thank you for all your help.

    Hi @raimyg

I’m having the same problems – did replacing the core files work for you?
