I am a relatively new WordPress user who has inherited the website above. I was using and modifying it for about a week when all of a sudden a couple of days ago I was unable to add a new page to the site. When I click on “new page”, it gives me the following warning and then stops: “Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /home/valleyo8/public_html/northbendescapes.com/wp-admin/includes/post.php on line 708. I’ve searched the internet and see that others have experienced this issue but it’s not clear what the cause was. I tried updating the PHP code on my hosting site to version 7.1 and no change. I installed the Health Check and Troubleshooting plugin v1.3.2 and went into troubleshooting mode with no change (same error and unable to add page). I’m now using WordPress 5.2 instead of 5.1 but had same thing on both.

When I try to add a page in non-troubleshooting mode, I also see a second warning:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied foreach() in /home/valleyo8/public_html/northbendescapes.com/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/admin/metabox/class-metabox.php on line 962. Don’t know if this is a clue or not. Most of what I have been doing so far is related to adding the “Enjoy North Bend WA hospitality” page and getting the SEO stuff inserted to make it green.

Thanks for any help you can provide as I’m ready to do significant work to get this website working for us but am dead in the water as far as adding new pages. Everything already in the site works fine.

Try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Hi James,

I tried this and still have the same two warnings and cannot add a page.

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Ok, I’ll try these things. fyi, we have a couple of other websites through our hosting provider and I tried one of these and was able to add a new page. So the issue is clearly specific to something on the website northbendescapes.com. I have dashboard access. The website and WordPress dashboard are working. The issue is when I try to add a new page.

I have the Health and Troubleshooting plugin installed. In troubleshooting mode, it disables all the plugins and sets the theme to the default 2019. I still get the same warning: creating default object from empty value in /home/valleyo8/public_html/northbendescapes.com/wp-admin/includes/post.php on line 708. Don’t get the second warning about the Yost plugin since it’s not active. Still unable to add a page.

I contacted my website hosting organization. It turns out that my default WordPress files did not match against the core files. They fixed the issue in a minute and the site now lets me add pages.
