Support » Installing WordPress » Warning: cannot modify header info…. what does it mean?!

  • When I am logged into my admin section and I am trying to either initialize the change of settings, options, or post, i get this:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/adamsamu/public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/orange/themetoolkit.php:763) in /home/adamsamu/public_html/blog/wp-includes/pluggable-functions.php on line 272

somehow, the changes always seem to go through, but its frustrating to deal with as I always have to hit the back button to return to the editing windows… someone help!! thanks!!

  • That means there’s probably an extra space either before <?php> at the top of the page or after ?> at the bottom of the page. What file have you edited directly in the last few hours? You just have some extra spaces there that you need to delete.

there are spaces and tags after many of those ?> at the end of documents, as well as many spaces and tags before <?php> in many documents. i dont know what the problem can be, is there any way to fix this or re install wordpress without deleting a bunch of settings? someone help please!!!

Please search for “cannot modify header information”. There are many topics in the last few months, many of which have relevance to your situation. If the first results (within the documentation/codex) don’t help you, then untick the box next to documentation in the search results and tick the box next to support forums.
