    Hello,

I have been using this plugin for more than a year in conjunction with W3 Total Cache with no issues. However, when I upgraded to Popups’ latest version, I just started to get a warning that says “It looks like you are using a Cache plugin. Remember to enable ajax mode to bypass page cache”.

Is this warning (and/or the ajax mode option) new? Why am I just seeing this now for the first time? Is there any downside to using ajax mode? How could my popup be affected by caching?

I want to make sure that switching to ajax mode won’t adversely affect anything. Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi @michdia,
the warning it’s new but ajax mdoe it’s quite old.
We have been serving th eplugin with ajax mode enabled by default for long time, but on last update we decided to roll the plugin with that option disabled by default and show a warning instead.

Ajax mode is not mandatory, and if everything works fine for you the way it is you don’t need to enable it.

For example your popup could be configure to show on blog page. So it will always show on blog page no matter which user visits it and if the page is cached or not.

Instead if you have your popup configured to show on blog page AND only show if the user is using a desktop having cache enabled could be a problem if you don’t enable ajax mode.

For example the first user uses a desktop and visit the blog page. The popup show and the cache is generated.
The second user uses a mobile but he see the cached page by the desktop user.
On this case you need to enable ajax mode that basically works this way.

Once the cached page is show, an ajax call is made to the server and check if the user is mobile or desktop. If uses desktop it will show the popup.

So basically all depends on the display rules you have in place and that will indicate if you need or not ajax mode.

If you like the plugin / support please leave a short review. It’s a tremendous help for us!

    Thanks

Thanks so much for your reply. To clarify, are you saying that until the most recent update, ajax had been enabled by default? So, I had been using ajax mode all along, but just didn’t know it?

Yes, most probably. Simple check the settings page of the plugin to see if it’s checked or not.

    Regards
