Support » Fixing WordPress » Want to hide entire category and posts

  • I have decided that I would like to remove an entire category from view on my blog. I don’t want to *delete* the posts (which number more than a couple hundred), but I don’t want the category OR the posts to be visible when someone surfs my site.

It would be nice for a future version of WP to have a “hide all category posts” function under the Categories page rather than just the option to delete all posts, but until then I’d like to hide an entire category and the posts from the entire site – including archives.

I have seen that people have been using the wp-list-categories function, but to be honest – I have no clue if that’s what I need to use, and if it is, where to put the code. Any assistance would be appreciated!

  • Ah ha – after much searching finally found Advanced Category Excluder plugin, which is exactly what I wanted!

Did you have any problem using this with the latest WordPress 2.8? I just installed it and don’t see any difference (no categories are excluded from anywhere) but maybe I have settings wrong…?

Nevermind! I saw the special ACE widgets, and I DID have a setting wrong. Thanks for posting about this great plugin, it’s perfect!
