Support » Plugin: The Events Calendar » Want to give it 5 stars…

  • But I can only go by how functional this is with the Headway theme, and the answer is… not very.

Individual events show up fine and with loads of option and easily styled but I cannot get the events calendar itself to show up. The Events Calendar just replicates the site’s Index page – whether that is customised or using it’s own shared layout. It will show if the Index page has a content block but it also shows all the other layout as well – sliders, wrappers etc.

The Events slug isn’t a page/post/category or anything else that can be detected or edited with Headway.

Hey there! This is Geoff from Modern Tribe and I wanted to reply after seeing this review. Right off the bat — thank you for taking the time to share your experience. While we’re always bummed to see anything less than 5-star review, we sincerely appreciate the feedback. Concerns like these help us improve the most and this is no exception.

That said, we do our best to be compatible with as many themes as possible–though clearly we fell short here with Headway. It appears the conflict here is that the calendar is a custom post archive and Headway is unable to detect anything that is not a default page, post or category. The only way to really pull up any archive view in WordPress here is to open it up in a code editor–such as the one provided in Appearance > Editor.

I’m curious: would you be willing to share some light on your experience? Specifically: at what point in using the plugin did you get frustrated at the fact that it seemed to require more code knowledge than you possess? We’re trying to gather feedback from our users as we work towards our next big release, and your insight here would be a huge help to make the next release even better. đŸ™‚

Totally understandable if you’re uninterested in providing that level of feedback or don’t have time. But if you’ve got a second we’d appreciate it and would take it into account as we work to improve the plugin. Our goal is to make the plugin more useful to all our customers…and if we can earn a full 5 stars from folks like yourself along the way, that’d be a nice added bonus.

Thanks a ton for the great review and feedback so far!

    Hi Geoff.

I’d love to help if I can. I’m not a coder having come to web design from a graphic design background (hence using Headway). Though I do know a bit of CSS and can work out most things.

Headway does actually allow you to change the layout and style for archive post types (I can see and edit the ‘Event’ type but it still shows the layout from the Index page.

I have a quick disposable site set up just trying to get the Event Calendar plugin to work HERE.
And I’d be happy to allow you admin access if it would help. steven[dot]tunley[at]gmail[dot]com

That helps out a ton, thanks stunley!

I do see a similar (though dated) report of a similar issue in our support forums. Here’s the thread where the person reporting the issue outlined how to solve it.

It’s definitely worth giving that a shot–assuming things are still current from the time the thread was posted. In either case, please hit us up in the support forum here and we’d be happy to check it out when we do our next pass. We’d be happy to take a look đŸ™‚

    Cheers!
    Geoff
