if i open the code for page-new.php can i put in the post.php code and it will just work or is it deeper then that?

  • Hmmm. What kind of theme do you use that has a post.php?
    Pages do NOT have categories.

i open wp-admin and go to write then write post
i want write page to work the same
i’m useing 1.5 and a very heavely edited shaded grey from wp-theme

You won’t get it. Pages are not posts, which is why there’s a slightly different set of editing tools.

can i add Categories to Pages?

    more detail:
I want a page where i can rant on one topic that links back to my main page so it does not need to be stand alone (i add that because i have seen some sites that do that)

“can i add Categories to Pages?”

Nope. Again, Pages are not posts. They’re intended as stand alone articles, uncategorized and outside the archival schema. Some have asked for Page categories, but I’m not sure it will happen anytime soon, at least in the WordPress core.

If you need to link back to the home page of your blog, the best way of doing that is to choose a theme that provides such a link, or modify your current theme’s templates to provide it. Site navigation is definitely something you can customize.

During the WP 1.2.x era (and maybe even earlier) the users’ chorus was asking, begging, crying… for “pages” that are not posts, don’t behave like posts. OK, thanks to v1.5 – we got it.
So now what? Do we want Pages that behave like posts? <grin>

well thank you for your support fast and great
    thank you so much
