Want categories (tags) to be selected before blog text displayed

  • I would like to have just a “blurb” on the main page, but not the actual blogs. I would like the reader to select a category, and then see the actual blog. Possible?

  • 1. Use the “more” tag (button) when writing a post.
    1a. Replace the_content tag in the index.php with the_excerpt.

No, clicking on a category will NOT lead to a single post. It will show a listing of the posts in that category.

The perma(nent)link to a single post – is usually the title of the post (or the “more” link).

    [and don’t double post!]

By “blurb” I meant something like “Choose a category to see the blogs on that topic.” Not the excerpts you would see by using the “more” tag. Does answer 1a speak to that?
[sorry about double post – accident]

OK, let’s try to talk the same language.
You have ONE blog = your WP install.
You make posts (the entries in chronological order) that are in different categories.
Blurb – in most of the cases is the same as excerpts.

And upgrade: the latest stable in that branch is 2.0.10.

Seemingly you want something as a “static home page”, with a custom text.

In the 2.2.x branch it can be done from within the admin panel. In the old system (2.0.x) it has to be done manually or by plugins.
