• I’m running W3TC 0.9.4 in WordPress 3.9 on an nginx server. I just discovered that many of my external links have been transformed to media library items!

For example… a link that should be

    http://www.digitalhandiwork.com

    is now

    http://www.mattselznick.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/www.digitalhandiwork.com

I confess I’m pretty freaked out by this, as I don’t know how many links on the ten year old site were affected. I noticed the change after running “import attachments into the media library.” It seems to have gone crazy and imported lots of external links!

Anyone experienced this? Will purging the cache fix this? Is there a way to fix it simply?

    Thanks in advance!

  • The same thing happened to me. I think I’m going to have to restore from backup. I’d like to know another answer since that loses me a week of data.

After crickets here, I restored from backup as well, @tomgccc. Fortunately, I only had to recreate a single post and a little block of CSS to restore things that fell between the cracks.

The glitch (and subsequent lack of a response here) has me re-thinking W3TC’s viability. The experience has certainly ruled out my ever upgrading to Pro.

I learned in the process that it’s possible to selectively restore a backup. I had written a few posts since my last backup, and there had been a lot of comment discussion during that week, and I lost none of it. Very thankful for that.
