# w3 validator errors on basic site

 * This must be something I’m doing but I can’t for the life of me figure it out.
 * Can someone help me understand why the base wp installation fails the w3 validator.
   I get 6 errors, 1 warning, and I’ve installed absolutely nothing.
    Changing the
   template from 2010 to 2011 reduces the errors to 5.
 * And then, of course, how can these can be fixed for good – as in when I upgrade
   I don’t have to worry about the errors reappearing.

 * Most of those sound to me like shortcomings in the Validator itself. I don’t 
   see any meaningful validation errors being reported.
 * IMHO, you can safely ignore them.

 * Now this is really weird.
 * I just installed another template and the errors have dropped from 5 to 2. Makes
   me wonder about ignoring the errors…

 * The validator should tell you. HTML 5 and it’s validator are still in the “experimental”
   stage compared to XHTML.
