• So i believe that i have successfully setup w3 total cache with the CDN set to “Self-Hosted” over ftp. The reason i THINK it’s setup correctly is because when i use the “Upload New Media” or “Add new media files from your computer” default WordPress file uploader, the files DO show up on the ftp server that i setup for w3 total cache…

BUT, the files ALSO show up in my default WordPress uploads folder that is set in the “Media Settings” page under “Uploading Files”.

So here’s the question… is this SUPPOSED to happen? I THOUGHT that if i used the CDN feature in w3 total cache that the files would ONLY be uploaded to the CDN… not BOTH the CDN AND my WP server.

Maybe i’m trying to use this feature in a way that it was never intended to be used?

Also, my goal here is this:

Host the database and ALL WP files on a VPS that has pretty good processing power & memory so that pages load nice and fast (also because it’s a VPS i get full control)

Host all MEDIA files and attachments (i do a lot of music/video uploads) on a SHARED hosting plan at hostgator.com because it has virtually unlimited disk space 🙂

That way i don’t have to pay for the VERY expensive disk space on the VPS…

    Makes sense?

W3TC makes copies of files, the behavior you see is desired.

Host all MEDIA files and attachments (i do a lot of music/video uploads) on a SHARED hosting plan at hostgator.com because it has virtually unlimited disk space 🙂

No it doesn’t. Disk space shouldn’t be expensive, if it is, switch hosts. Shared hosts are the worst performers.

    Thanks for the response Frederick.

I’m not certain what your “no it doesn’t” was in response to… but this part “virtually unlimited disk space” is totally accurate (largely because i said “virtually”) 😉

Any way to touch the code in W3TC so that instead of COPYING the uploaded files, it basically REPLACES the standard upload process?

    I know that’s a long shot question… but it’s exactly what i’m looking for…

At the moment i’m looking into using symbolic links on my server…

You can configure your subdomain to use the same document root as your main site and then you won’t have to upload anything; that can be tricky.
