• i use backwpup on multiple sites, and just upgraded to 3.0.3 today on 2 sites. i can’t get the backup to finish now on either site. it runs “forever” during the zip archive stage and never completes. i don’t use 3rd party sites for backup, just backup to my site (including xml and all files).

I’m also seeing zip files with strange extensions on the end in my backup folder. such as:
    backwpup_clonewp1_2013-03-03_11-18-12.zip.y2gKI5

Maybe these are the aborted zip archives?

it’s a great plugin, but please fix asap. Thanks!
let me know if you need any info. (send me an email address). i’ll be happy to help.

@mharpen: No that no abborded Zips. The PHP Zip function creates them on Zipping. If ther messages about inactivity in your log?

Than try to use one of tar archive formats. And if that not helps Plase split the job. Example one for DB and 2 For file backup.

Thanks a lot for using BackWPup and I’m glad I was able to help.

Daniel, i upgraded to 3.0.4 today and still the zip format doesn’t finish. it gets stuck at about 75% zipping, and doesn’t finish.

i tried the tar format and it does finish, but took a lot longer than what backupup used to take. so i compared old backups to new backups. and it appears that there is now a large (12.5 MB) “sdk” sub-folder in the BackWPup plugin folder. the previous version didn’t have that. Is that intended? That may be part of the problem. My zip format backups were maybe reaching a limit and timing out. The sdk folder makes the backwpup plugin folder the largest folder in my site.

please advise if i can delete the sdk folder.

i’ll wait for your reply. thanks!

    Further notes on Tar format:

    1) the Tar format doesn’t seem to do any compression. In almost all cases, the packed sub-folder sizes in the Tar file are larger than the original sizes.
    2) the TarGz format completed, but only created a 77KB file (should be at least 28MB on my site). It seemed to get hung on the 99% status. So maybe it aborted, however it still said completed after about 4 minutes of sitting at the 99% status.

Backwpup used to work fine before vsn 3.x using the zip format. Hope you can resolve the issues soon. Thanks.
