• My new art site, vivalet.com, is up. It uses the thematic theme and the child theme is a customized thematic power blog. I also use nextgen gallery.

Let me know what you think!

  • You might want to have your website checked with other browsers, I’m using Safari and some text and images are overlapping.

Your artwork is very nice but you need to make it the most important piece… I would tone your background image so it becomes just that, a background. Also some colors of your text and outlines are too harsh and distracted from your work, make them darker.

I second pbwordp re: cross-browser testing and distracting background. Also would be helpful to see the site on a variety of monitors. I can see how the background might not seem like such a huge issue on a 1024 x 768 (except for the footer, which is kind of overwhelming), but on a 16:9 screen, that background takes over like a Pinochet.

(This all comes from a painter first, and a designer second. I totally understand how tempting it is to use your pieces to do all the design work on the site – have to fight that urge myself. However, it’s hard to see the furniture if it blends with the wallpaper.)

Also, I like the idea of a random gallery image as your first large image, but it needs to be smaller and not split by the fold. It’s kind of a bad scene to land on a site and have to scroll right away just to see the first image, let alone the rest of the first page.
