# Visual/HTML tabs not working

 * This is not the first time I’ve set up WordPress, but it’s the first time I’ve
   seen this problem.
 * The HTML tab is greyed out. The content as viewed in the Visual tab … fades in
   and out? I did the classic 5 minute install. I’m talking about the default text
   for the sample post. I’ve changed nothing else – its the default template, etc.
   I reviewed the forums and did some of the things suggested – cleared cache, tried
   two different browsers (current versions of Chrome and Firefox for MacOS), but
   cannot see any difference between this and previous installs (for other clients)
   except that this isn’t allowing me to edit. The same thing happens if I try a
   new post.

 * Try re-uploading all files & folders – **except** the wp-content folder – from
   a **fresh** download of WordPress.

 * Sorry, this did not help. I did a completely clean install yet again, new MySQL
   database, the works. What I’m seeing is something I haven’t seen in any other
   version of WordPress, and I have several websites using it. And it gets odder–
   I can’t see, for example, this file:

 * Can’t even see it as a local file on my disk.

 * That was not a real URL – I replaced the actual domain with the word mydomain.
   I was just showing the scope of the problem. For some reason, graphics files 
   aren’t showing.

 * Either your images have all been corrupted or it’s something weird on your server.
   Have you asked your hosts about this?

 * **Problem solved!**
 * It turned out that for some reason, my FTP client (Filezilla) had switched the
   Transfer mode from ‘Auto’ to ‘ASCII’ (not sure how that one happened). Once I
   restored it to ‘Auto’ and re-uploaded everything, the problem went away.
