 * For 3 weeks now, I have not had a visual tab.
 * I have tried EVERYTHING I’ve read on previous problems with this including:
 * –changing themes
–checking and checking the visual option under users –deactiviating
and reactivating plug ins and widgets –reinstalling wordpress — I have the new
   update to wordpress
 * NOTHING works. I even tried adding a ‘new’ user and still it’s not there. PLEASE
   someone give me some help!
 * I DO NOT have FTP capabilities… is this an issue with theme? Since I’ve changed
   themes and it’s still not appearing, I don’t think it’s a theme issue…

 * At Users -> Your Profile in your blog’s Dashboard, is “Disable the visual editor
   when writing” unchecked?

 * Ok, try [downloading WordPress](https://wordpress.org/download/) again and delete
then replace your copies of everything **except** the `wp-config.php` file and
the `/wp-content/` directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively
replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some
uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete
the original files before replacing them.

 * Ok, that’s the next thing we need to try to fix this, so you’ll need to secure
access to the files on the server somehow.

 * not sure that’s possible but I’ll try to contact my hosting company and see.
They have said no FTP access.

 * A hosting provider with no FTP access? That’s a basic feature of every hosting
provider I have encountered, even the free ones (which I don’t recommend, by
   the way, they’re terrible).

 * It’s not a free one but hosted through the United Methodist Church which stated
it does not have FTP access but everything is designed to be done through WordPress.

 * Ok, maybe they could re-install the core files for you, or help you with the
issue since maybe it’s a custom configuration?

 * not sure. I have a support ticket in to them but doubt it will be answered until
after Christmas. Thank you for your help so far!

 * for the time being, you can install a visual editor plugin, for eg. the ckeditor
until the issue is fixed. [https://wordpress.org/plugins/ckeditor-for-wordpress/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/ckeditor-for-wordpress/)

 * A few questions for you:
    1. Did this start happening after the 3.9 release?
    2. Are you using the free website available through [UMC Web Press](http://umcpress.com/)?
    3. If yes, what did UMC Web Press say when you asked about the Visual Tab?
    4. Can you share the URL for the site?
 * This [post about the Visual Tab](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/visual-editor-missing-after-39?replies=28)
may be useful for background, but it would be up to UMC Web Press to track down
whether the same issues/plugins apply to their setup.

 * yes, it started after the 3.9 release. We use UMC word press but have level 2
which isn’t the free level. They haven’t responded to my support ticket yet.

The URL for the site is melroseumc.com

 * Thanks for the quick response and information.
 * One more question: when you said you switched themes, did you switch to the default
Twenty Fifteen theme, to rule out any theme-related issues?
 * UMC Web Press may be better able to troubleshoot your setup, since they control
the WordPress setup configuration. Refresh my mind, what’s included in level
   2 from UMC Web Press?
