    Hi,

Visual Editor stopped working after updating to 4.9.6, each time I try clicking on the visual editor button it adds this text to the text editor:
    <span data-mce-type=”bookmark” style=”display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;” class=”mce_SELRES_start”> </span>

I tried both updating to new version (4.7.11) and the older one (4.6.7), didn’t help.

Also tried clearing cache – didn’t help neither.

  • Same here. Disabled and purged w3 total cache, but still the visual editor loads very slow. Insert media not showing images. Is tinymce crashing or something?

No idea what could be going wrong for you guys but with the update to WordPress 4.9.6 a lot of TinyMCE files were revised, see the “List of Files Revised” on the “Version 4.9.6 « WordPress Codex” page https://codex.wordpress.org/Version_4.9.6 :

@fadi232 this is part of the code that maintains the cursor position when you switch Text -> Visual editors. It is removed after the Visual editor loads.

Seems there is another bug that breaks the js after it was added but before TinyMCE was loaded. The next step would be to refresh your browser cache yet again (just to rule that out) and then look in the browser tools for any JS errors.

This is most likely not caused by TinyMCE Advanced.

    Hi,
I did clear cache, didn’t help.
Here is the JS error I get:

    Hi,
    I’ve managed to solve it:

    1) updated the theme / TinyMCE
    2) In Autoptimize plugin:
i] in javascript option in “exclude scripts from Autoptimize” added this: “wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/compat3x/plugin.min.js”
ii] also enabled “Add try-catch wrapping”
iii] then “Save change and clear cache”
    3) Cleared Cache: Cleared all site cache from W3TC including CDN & Cloudflare
    4) Cleared varnish cache as well
    5) Cleared browser cache
