• I created a profile for my assistant to edit my blog posts.
Initially she was able to work in the visual editor – but all of a sudden, she isn’t able to see anything… only in the text side. She doesn’t have coding experience, and I’d prefer her to work on the visual side for now.

We have done the following to try and remedy it:
    – Updated WP to 4.2.1
    – Checked that ” Disable the visual editor when writing” was not ticked
    – I upgraded her to Administrator rights, although Editor should be sufficient enough
    – Even tried creating a duplicate profile to see if it helped
    – We tried looking on a different browser
    – and we even cleared out her browsers “cookies”

I’m able to see the visual editor fine – but she can’t [she is operating on a PC, and I have Mac].
    Please help!

First, please make sure that her browser is up to date by visiting http://whatbrowser.org/

If it is not, please try updating her browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes, and which browser (and version of) she’s using if she’s still having trouble.

I am having the same problem and can not see my visual editor after updating to 4.2. I have tried everything, plugin deactivation, cleared cookies and cache, reinstalled wordpress manually and still no visual editor. I have read more comments about this that I can handle and so far nothing has worked. This is so frustrating. I have been trying to figure this out for 3 hours. ugh! I am using google chrome on a mac. Please help!!!

She has now lost the text side too.

Ok, and how about the browser troubleshooting?

Emma, can you try de-activating all your plugins?

I guess your wp-content and wp-include folder’s .htaccess files are blocking others and allowing your ip only.

James – She did the browser troubleshooting above.
Dhruba – if I de-activate and then re-activate… will it not just do the same thing?

Emma, so far I am aware of this issue – this issue is mostly caused by Security plugin like BulletProof Security, Sucuri etc.

So try de-activating those plugins and before re-activate need to figure out what the wrong was done in initial set-up of the plugin.

    And the results were?

I mean really, we’d love to help you, but we’re not psychic.

    Hi James,
She did the troubleshooting above… and the results… were that she lost the text editor as well as the visual editor… as indicator above.
I have asked her to look at the security plugins that Dhruba suggested… she is also going to defrag her computer tonight, and I’m hoping it resolves the issue.
Right now, it’s evening in SA, so she’ll probably only look at it in about 13 hrs.

Ok, thank you. No context was provided, so I didn’t know that was the result of the troubleshooting and not just a new symptom.

Try adding define('CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS', false); to your wp-config.php file just below the define('DB_HOST' line.

To do so, access your server via FTP or SFTP and edit the file with a plain text editor.

James, no problem… i was responding to the message above… and will be mindful to include context next time.
A question… what would cause it not to work on her PC, yet work fine on my mac?
Could it be a virus on her side / just the security plugin she has on her side [as mentioned above]? It just seems so weird that all is fine on my side, yet she is struggling so much? Contemplating getting a mac – so that there is more consistency… but am not in a position to do that right now, and the longer she struggles, the more I need to do the work for her.

I’m really leaning towards it being an issue on her side, most likely a browser extension, or a system-side security suit blocking the editor as if it were malicious (which is obviously not the case, but these false-positives are sadly common).

It could be a javascript issue on her side too, which disabling the concatenation might address.
