• I am new to wordpress, and don’t understand why this is not working properly.

If I go to a new post and begin typing, everything seems to work fine.

On posts where I’ve copied and pasted text, the visual editor shows everything perfectly, but when I load the site none of the formatting is correct (no paragraphs, no line breaks, etc). I’ve tried pasting as plain text, pasting in the html editor, but nothing seems to work. Typing new text anywhere in the box does the same thing.

These posts used to look fine, but now are not. It’s almost as if they are corrupt.

    Instead of:
    Line 1

    Line 2
    Line 3

    It’s:

    Line 1 Line 2 Line 3

  • Don’t paste content from appliucations like Microsoft Word into WordPress as the pasted text will also contain Word’s own formatting. Sooner or later, this formatting will stop your pages from being displayed correctly (if at all) in Internet Explorer. If you cannot possibly manage without Word, paste your text into NotePad (or another text editor) first, then copy from NotePad into WordPress. Or use Windows LiveWriter or another local blogging tool

    Thank you for your advice!

The text that I’m copying was actually from another website, but I have tried copying from my notes app and from some other places, and it has the same issues.

I thought that if I pasted to the html side that it would remove the formatting (which I’d be ok with- I can recreate the spacing) but it for some reason is keeping the spacing in the editor, just not on the site. If there is a way to remove the spacing I would do it (I’ve also tried using the paste as plain text option with no luck).

    One word: don’t.

The website that I’m taking the text from is the old version of the website I’m building. Would you recommend retyping everything instead? Or is there a way to copy and paste in a way to clear the formatting?

Is there a reason you’re saying that? What is it about websites that copying don’t making copying and pasting easy?

As I said above, any text that you paste in may contain formatting that will stop your pages from being displayed correctly.
