I have never had to provide an e-mail address when I enter the password for a WordPress post. Mostly, when I do have to provide an e-mail address for access to things I give a false or throwaway address so that I will never see any mail sent to it. My favourite false address is someone@example.com
Are you perhaps using a plugin that asks for an address?

It’s not the “the standard password protected post form that comes with wordpress”, then. And I can’t find any “optimal” theme at wordpress.org. Is it a theme that you paid for, in which case you can expect support from whoever markets it?
