Visit Site not working

Hi,

I am new to wordpress and have installed wordpress on my win xp sp3 machine. I already had an apache, php, mysql set up and did set up a database exclusively for wordpress site which i am going to launch soon.

I did install everything correctly on my local machine/localhost. I am able to access the admin panel properly. However, strangely, as I click the “visit site” link on the top of admin panel then it takes me back to the windows directory of wordpress install in my default browser and start showing me all the .php files in that and doesnt launch the site.

any resolution please on urgent basis is highly appreciated.
