Support » Fixing WordPress » Virus Found: HTML/Framer. Nasty.

  • Well this is the second time this month that I’ve had some viral problem with my test address for my blog in development.

It seems to be something that targets the Cache. In C:\Documents and Settings\Me\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles, a directory appears every time I open my blog to view it. It is (excuse the language): 9opf62n6.FUCK OFF

In this directory there is the same file, which appears each time I try to click the back button. This is apparently a virus, and AVG cannot fix or identify it.

I’ve searched on this one and can find nothing.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Anything I can do? I’ve contacted my web host.

And.. how do you make a blog more secure using CHMOD? Whenever I try to reduce the permissions, it stops me from being able to do anything from the control panel.

I don’t feel like my blog is safe to go live yet until these attacks die down…

  • No-one experiencing these security issues?

    i’d try trend micro’s online checker, and/or others…

Thanks jennaishealed… tried that but it didn’t work.

Instead I went to GeeksToGo and used their help forum to completely clean my machine.

By the time I’d got back online, the index page of my account had been hacked, and my WordPress account’s index page had been hacked. I have replaced the files, changed my password again, but to be honest I don’t think this will do much to prevent it seeing as it didn’t prevent it before.

I can’t change my permissions to anything but 777. This is an enduring problem – whenever I try, I cannot do anything in my control panel.

Please, please can anyone help with this? I’ve followed the security tutorial on this site, but it’s still not working.

heriz, you havent provided any information that can help you with a WP issue.

There are standard things to do if your site has been defaced. Theyre all items that need require nothing more than some common sense, and theyve been gone over time and time again on these forums.

I’m pretty new to this, I searched the forum and didn’t find a solution. I’ve had a few questions on this answered and they haven’t worked – I’ve been getting a bit desperate. It’s a little unfair to say it needs little more than common sense but I understand that there’s nothing much that anyone can do with the info I’ve provided.

I’ll read up on WP forum protocol & security in more detail.

    Thanks for your reply.

heriz, I had 2 HTML Framer virus come up last week, and AVG deleted on and put one in the vault.
