I’ve been using Post Views for Jetpack for a few days. So far it seems to have been working fine up until yesterday. The latest post on my site (from yesterday around 11:43am cst) still says 0 views, even though some users have visited and even commented on the post. So now it has been almost 24 hours without updating the view count. I didn’t make any changes to my site at all, except a few unrelated css modifications. I believe I also cleared my user cache and purged temp files at some point yesterday, not sure if it was before or after the post in question was made.

What could be the issue? There are about 20 or so older posts where the view counts have updated just fine (I have noticed a bit of lag before the views updated here and there) but this is the first I’ve experienced them not updating for such a long period of time. I made a test post to see if the view count would update once a new post was made, but that had no effect.

Could you give me a few examples so I can take a closer look?

    Thanks!

Yes, I’d be happy to give some examples. If seeing the site would help, can I send you the url in email? Or what specifically can I provide you with?

A bit of extra info that may help – I checked the WP post stats list by going to Jetpack > Site Stats > Show Me and then looking at the “Posts & Pages” summary, I don’t even see this particular post showing up on the list.

Another user made a post within the last hour since I started this thread and the view count for his post refreshed almost immediately to 1 view (it is also showing in that post stats list as it should). However the views don’t seem to update immediately after every refresh. For instance, I tested using a different browser + IP viewing his post and it is not updating the view count, it is still stuck on the same number. **edit: about 20 minutes later now the views on his post have updated** It seems to be inconsistent with how long it takes to refresh the counts.

No idea why the post I started this thread about just isn’t logging a count or showing up in the stats list at all (it is showing up in my WP post dashboard and everywhere else though)

Edit: I’ve been doing some testing and exploring, I think I’ve figured part of the problem out. It looks like it’s only logging page views from visitors who are not logged in, and not logging page views from users who are logged into their account. πŸ™

That would make sense why I perceived that the view count updates were inconsistent – it’s not that they had any refresh lag, it’s just that the views from me while logged in were not counting – and when I saw the count update it was because a visitor must have viewed it. I am using Ultimate Member plugin for user accounts if that makes a difference.

It looks like it’s only logging page views from visitors who are not logged in, and not logging page views from users who are logged into their account.

That’s correct. Jetpack doesn’t record visits from logged in users by default.

You can change that default behaviour though, and record visits from everyone. You can do so by going to Jetpack > Settings > Engagement, and clicking on the “Stats” card. There you will be able to choose when stats are recorded.

    I hope this helps.

Ohh! I didn’t even realize that there were settings on the front-end for this. Thanks for the help, awesome plugin!
