First of all, you need to confirm what version of WordPress you are running via the Right Now pane in your Dashboard.
Hi esmi, It tells me I’m running 3.2.1 which is making me think, that I need to change that file? I did not see how to change it, to the earlier version; in Dashboard. …. cheers!
Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.
Ah, okay except that my config file the one I changed from config-sample is from version 2.6.3, So, why would I want to re-do this, please? I think the first version, the latest was already on my server through hostgator? Then, the directions I am following for install, said to use the earlier version to assist n following the instructions to the end. Using the version shown in the instructions ….. does this make sense? Personally I do not care? In that I will probably be able to follow the instructions with latest dashboard. My real problem lay, in the fact that when starting up cPanel in hostgator I could not see a fantastico link, but allowed the wizard to install WP. Without the necessary knowledge through subsequent steps. So, if I follow your last tip; will I not get the same default message that I’m already installed? …… thanks!
P.S. since I can;t find that Config-sample file. I”m beginning to see why you’re saying to re-upload. I will wait for your response.
What does your wp-config.php file have to do with it?
if I follow your last tip; will I not get the same default message that I’m already installed?
No.
Well it’s there on the new download …. will it not overwrite? Or do I just leave it as config-sample.php file? ….. thanks!
Yikes, I really messed it up by messing around with my config file and user at my hostgator account. ……. now I’m not sure how to get back to dashboard?
I feel like really dumping on myself, right now! I’m going to go away and have a little hissy fit! ….. i’m just feeling so burned out, trying to get this thing going. But my ignorance and inability to follow instruction. If I had not be taken in by that use the earlier version thing …. g-a-a-r-g-h-h! It’s like follow the instructions …. it’s so simple. Yah think? I’m going to make tea.
The version that you used to create your wp-config.php file from is not such a big issue. Even a fairly old & basic wp-config.php file will still work on a 3.2.1 site.
Yes, but I monkeyed around with my user name on my database and although I’ve restored it. The page for dashboard no longer recognizes me. I must have been out of my silly mind? I was just following the instructions and committed that mindless act. The same user is now restored on my database, at hostgator. There is a wordpress connection wizard, but it’s not clear how to use it and this is probably not the right forum for explanation. ….. but hey! thanks for your help!
