view_item_list fired multiple times

    We are using Sober as a theme for our Woocommerce Store. We also use Google Analytics to track users behavior including the ecommerce tracking. On our page https://emilelise.com/produkt-kategorie/our-scents/ the Google Analytics ecommerce Event ‘view_item_list’ is fired multiple times (one time per product on the page), but we would expect it to fire only once. This distorts our reports in Google Analytics. Is there something, that we can do about this? Or is this a bug, that you could fix? Thanks!

    Before investigating further, please share a copy of your site’s System Status Report: You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. 

    Also, please share a copy of any fatal error log found under WooCommerce > System Status > Logs (if available).

WC Database Version: 7.2.0

    As per the Status report, I am able to see that you have an outdated WooCommerce Database, that does not match the WooCommerce core version.

    Please update your WooCommerce Database to match the core version in order to obtain optimal functionality. This can be done via WooCommerce → Status → Tools → Update database. Here is more detailed documentation on this.

    Hello Roxy,

    i just updated the database as well. But the behavior is still the same. You can check it yourself if you use the Tag-Assitant Debugview: https://tagassistant.google.com/

    When you then start the debug and click on “our scents” you can see that the “view_item_list is fired 6 times, which is relates to the products shown on that page. But it should just be one view_item_list.

    Hi,

    May I ask if you switch the site’s theme temporarily to Storefront and disable all plugins except WooCommerce and WooCommerce Google Analytics Integration, does the issue persist?

    If not, it means you can reactivate the original theme and the plugins gradually one at a time, until you find the cause behind the problem.

    Hello @ihereira and @roxannestoltz ,

    thank you for your patience. I just tested it now with a standard “Storefront” Theme from Woocommerce in Version 4.2.0. It is the same behavior. When i load the page and run the debug it shows the “view_item_list” fired 7 times at the moment, because we have 7 products. So the theme is not the problem. It is the same problem with Storefront.

    What should i do now? Can we get that fixed?

    i tried also to disable the plugins in my installation. So i tried it with those disabled plugins:

    it still generates the 7 view_item_list views. So now i dont know where that is coming from.

    I understand that the issue still persists even after switching to the default Storefront theme and the 7 plugins above disabled.

    Can you please try again to switch to the default Storefront theme and only WooCommerce and Google Analytics plugins are enabled and see if this works?

    i tried it now with the standard design and all plugins deactivated. It is still the same that the view_item_list is fired multiple times on that page. I also made screenshots of that. Please find them here:

    Just in Addition. It also fires multiple times, when the window is smaller. I just made the screenshot for that so you can see it better.

    Hi there,

    The view_list_item event is designed to register when an item is viewed in a list. You site fires this event for each item in the list of products on the page.
