    Hiya,
I am having issues with videos not playing from Google Photos. I am certain I’ve selected show photos & Videos, The thumbnail appears in the gallery with the play icon, when I click it, I get a black/blank lightbox and the web-console shows error HTTP load failed with status 404. Load of media resource. Images work perfectly this only happens with videos.
    Any suggestions? (Thanks)

Please see this thread. You will need to experiment with alternative video sizes.

The issue is with the Google API not having a means to play a video in a lightbox. I found a workaround using sizes documented in the Picasa API, but as you can see in the feature request I filed with Google, Google itself advises against using it. This will only work if you are manually editing a shortcode – I have deliberately not added this into the shortcode builder (because of Google’s advice), so you will not see an option to specify it via the UI.

As an addendum this is the feature request I logged in July: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/111931138. Google has not posted any comments on it yet.

Thanks for the speedy answer. Seems the mighty google isn’t likely to reply to you soon tho !

I’m new to the block system in wp, how would I edit the shortcode directly to try it out ? It’s only a small family site so tinkering isn’t an issue !

Since this control is (deliberately) not included in the UI, there is no way to do this through a block.

The only way to use it is to follow one of these options:

    1. If this is a new page with no other content you might consider using the Classic editor for it. Using the Classic Editor in the “Text” mode will let you see the shortcode as is generated by Photonic, and you can edit it there.
    2. If this is a page where you have used features of Gutenberg, the above will not work for you. In that case you might want to start off with a dummy empty post in the Classic Editor, add the shortcode there (you don’t need to save the page – just create and insert the shortcode), copy the shortcode, and paste it into a shortcode block in Gutenberg.

The issue here is not just Google but WP as well. If they only hadn’t disabled the Text editor in Gutenberg you would at least not require the Classic Editor plugin for this.

    Thanks for the tips.

I was actually looking for a way to copy the short code itself anyway as a way to speed up inserting galleries as I’m only changing date ranges, but couldn’t find a way and the attributes at end of workflow I couldn’t convert 🙂 – this will help with both queries thanks !

Lovely plugin by the way. I tried a lot before finding yours and can’t rate high enough
