I am having the same issue, with a video gallery. The shortcode outputs nothing. I also tried hard-coding it into a template with do_shortcode but no avail. Tried downgrading to 2.2.1, 2.2.0, 2.1.0 and 2.0.1, all have the same problem.
Ok, I just went to the MaxGalleria support forum thinking perhaps the videos were an add-on. I had to purchase an add-on to access the forums, as my initial purchase was over a year ago. Purchasing and installing the Video Showcase plugin solved my issue, but my transaction history on the site doesn’t say I purchased it before, just that I purchased a “Personal licence” for the plugin just over a year ago. Perhaps there’s been a bit of a mismatch between new features and addons between plugin versions? (I honestly don’t remember much about the setup as it was over a year ago that I set it up for a client and haven’t had an issue since).
@doubledesign We switched to add-ons earlier this year so that’s probably why it’s not showing up for you at the moment, but it does show the recent purchase correct? The personal license from a year ago would have been MaxGalleria Pro, which no longer exists and is split out into the add-ons that you saw.
