I don’t think WordPress automatically add a featured image for a video. You most likely have to take a preview image of a video and set it as a featured image manually in the post editor.

I think I didn’t explain properly. I’ll try again:
1) Whenever you add a new post, you can select the “post format type” for it, as said here: https://wordpress.org/support/article/post-formats/
2) No matter what “post format type” I choose for a given post, your Coldbox homepage is always trying to show the “featured image”, and the short description for that post.
3) In other WP themes, i.e. TWENTY SEVENTEEN, when you select a video “post format type” for a given post, theme homepage shows a video player for the video contained/embedded in that post, instead of the “featured image”, and also the short description for the post. Thus, you can watch the video from the homepage itself, not requiring entering that post.
I think now it’s clearer.
I want to know if ColdBox can do this now, and if not, if you are considering implementing this soon (we’ll appreciate that!).

Thanks, it makes sense now. Unfortunately, you cannot do that with the theme and I’m not planning to implement that feature anytime soon. I might be able to implement this when I have some free time.
The Coldbox theme is open-source and available for anyone to develop. If you submit a PR for the GitHub Repository of the theme I’m really happy to review it 🙂
