My guess is your video codec is MPEG-4, not H.264. This is the first question in the FAQ. Take a look at that and if you still have questions, I can give you better advice if you post a link to the video you’re having trouble with.

Thanks Kyle for your immediate response. The current format is mp4 which I suppose is the same as MPEG-4. The program I use automatically records and save in that format unfortunately. I’m downloading HandBrake now and I’ll to follow those instructions.

It’s confusing because they certainly look the same, but an .mp4 filename does not indicate that a file has an MPEG-4 video codec. mp4 is a video container and the container can hold many different codecs. Browsers have all pretty much settled on playing H.264 videos in an mp4 container but they don’t support the MPEG-4 video codec in an mp4 container. The reasons for this are long and boring but it makes web video just a little harder than it should be.

Thanks again. I have the program installed and it’s the process of encoding the container. Very lengthy process. By chance, does the plugin support any other format that doesn’t require the lengthy process. Or perhaps recommend a program that I can use to record and save the video files in the correct codec format?

Transcoding a long video to any format will take some time and there isn’t a faster browser-supported codec available. There are some slower ones. My plugin has no control over the video formats that browsers can play. The browser developers are in charge of that and they’ve settled on H.264 for now.

I don’t do any live video recording so I don’t know anything about the software available to do that. You’ll want to look for something that records H.264 video, which is very common and might even be an option in your current software.

    Hello Kyle.

I’ve made some progressed. I tested the video and it works on Google Chrome on my desktop, but NOT on IE 11 desktop, nor Google Chrome on my android cell phone will the video play. It shows “no compatible source was found for this media” and “X”. https://wp.me/P7vJLQ-i3

That’s because you converted your video to OGV which is not what I recommended and isn’t supported on mobile devices or IE.

I thought I uploaded three different variations and none of them work. :-/

I see one that I didn’t add which the extension is .m4v is that the correct conversion from Handbreak?

All 3 of the videos on that page are ogv. Don’t use ogv.

Handbrake does tend to encode m4vs by default. I suggest changing the filename from .m4v to .mp4 for the best compatibility.

Thanks, I’ve added the one ending in .m4v format and could you check to see if it’s correct?

    It looks good to me.
